Today Twitter introduced its first official app for smartphones, on the iPhone and BlackBerry devices. Twitter bought the iPhone client Tweetie and will rebrand & relaunch it as a free official app. They also worked with BlackBerry's Research in Motion (RIM) for an official BlackBerry app.
I am interested to see if this will encourage more people to use Twitter. Although Twitter already has a huge amount of users, I feel like most of them are businesses, celebrities, or people interested in following them. Now that it will be even more convenient to use, maybe more people will begin tweeting. Clearly, mobile apps is where it's at, but what does that mean for business and the society we are living in?

As evidenced by the recent sale of 300,000 IPads in it's first day of sales, the consumers thirst for faster more mobile technology is seemingly unquenchable. With these new mobile aps, smart businesses will now be able to wrap their tennacles around their customer anytime, anywhere!Say goodbye to privacy!
Just came from the Apple store -- clearly the MOST crowded store in the mall. People of all ages were checking out the Ipad. My Iphone is the LAST item I'd give up - it has made many aspects of life more convenient with its multiple apps. On the other hand, it has become intrusive as I am available by phone, email and text at all times. We have all been at a dinner table where each person was on their own mobile device instead of paying attention to the people they are with.
If everyone is twittering- then who is reading it? There is already an assumption that we are available 24/7 to communicate with anyone and everyone. Do we also have to read every thought that someone chooses to broadcast to the world? Sounds like a huge waste of time.
couldn't have said it better myself
