Humans, An Endangered Species

History has shown technological growth is exponential.
Meaning it looks like this ----->

That basically means that in as little as a few decades, machine intelligence will surpass human intelligence. The implications of such a time are quite frightening. It would mean we all would become robots, or fuse with robots, or something along those [non linear] lines.

Then all this talk about the "future of marketing" would be pointless, because humans would no longer be needed for marketing positions! We, as human/machine hybrids, would develop ingenious marketing schemes at the speed of light. We would all be immortal like Edward Cullen, minus the constant thirst for blood. Of course, you think, no way would humans hand over their power to machines. However, what if humans became so dependent on machines that there was no other option but to do exactly that?

Yes, this is total crazy talk. But entertain me. Will humans one day be at the mercy of machines? Can machines develop our marketing approaches for us?

In some senses humans are at the mercy of machines today, right now. Between the newly discussed cellphone and social network addictions and all the modern day conveniences, a majority of the world depends on machines to fulfill basic needs.
In regards to a machine(s) with Artificial Intelligence controlling the human race, I feel like 'The Matrix' has already warned us about AI's implications. If technology becomes so sophisticated that I have to become a cyborg so be it, strap me up and make me half robot. Hey, I might live longer, maybe it would be totally bad ass. Imagine being able to upload Webster's dictionary right to the hippocampus. I'd enjoy some super strong bionic arms, a machine heart that never stops, and a little more knowledge never hurt. This could be the next step in human evolution.
If intelligent machines become the world market power, who cares? It would make life a lot less complicated. Hopefully the first thing an intelligent machine does is dismiss economics and marketing all together.

Brill! You make an important point, we are absolutely experiencing the beginnings of a technology dominated world. It seems as though we always fail to recognize the consequences of our inventions when we're under the spell of innovation! Although true, that may not be entirely bad...

I recently saw a PBS documentary on the effects of computer & cellphone usage on the brain and our youth who are constantly multi-tasking so they can get their social-techno fix in every 5-10 minutes are damaging their brains. So maybe there's some truth in this...

I am terrified that cell phones will one day be realized to have ill effects we never dreamed of. I remember my dad trying to create a law that smoking would be illegal on trains. Everyone thought he was crazy. The rest is history. Maybe we need to get some laws in place for the ages at which cell phones can be used.
